Thanks to support from the Allan Labor Government the Maryborough railway station has been updated so that more visitors can make their way to the gold rush town.

Member for Ripon Martha Howlett represented Minister for Regional Development Gayle Tierney to announce the completion of the train station’s upgrade. The project was backed by a $1.8 million investment from the Labor Government.

Built in the 1890s, the new station now boasts a modern café, visitor centre and sculpture courtyard. The new visitor centre features digital storytelling screens so visitors can take a trip back to Maryborough’s gold rush era.

Indigenous-owned construction company Barpa completed works and supported 15 local jobs, and the upgraded station will create five new jobs.

People of all abilities can now tour the station with updated accessibility features added and more parking options. It also has a studio where local artists can work and exhibit their pieces.

The station plays a vital role in connecting the town to other regional hubs and Melbourne via V/Line services.

The project is part of the Government’s record investment of more than $41 billion in rural and regional Victoria since 2014. For more information go to rdv.vic.gov.au.
